From St.Antönien to Partnun Stafel in the Prättigau

St.Antönien - Partnun Stafel - St.Antönien

The Prättigau region of Graubünden is probably less known than popular regions like the Engadine, St.Moritz or Davos, but definitely worth a trip, especially in winter, as it sees less traffic and is therefore more peaceful.

There is a little cluster of mountain buildings at the foot of Mount Sulzfluh, a stunning rock ridge that marks the border of Austria and Switzerland. In winter access is only on foot (or snowmobile with the locals) and it is about a 4 km, gently ascending walk from the final bus stop that goes up past St.Antönien (or 5 km. from the village itself). The road is wide and cleared, and partly sloped enough that the return to St.Antönien can be done with a toboggan.

There are two restaurants at Partnun Stafel, and they alternate with their days of operation, so that there is always a hearty meal available, to be enjoyed on the sunny view terrace. (The Alpenrösli is located further up the village from the Sulzfluh restaurant). Both buildings also offer accommodation.

This hidden gem is at a higher altitude (1760 m) which means more snow for longer, and is definitely a recommended winter excursion when you are in the area.

Whether arriving by car or bus, a stop in the village of St.Antönien is also a must, therefore we recommend at least on one leg (extra 1.2 km) to walk to or from the village.
