The Arosa-Lenzerheide ski arena is a large and popular ski region which also offers some nice panorama winter walking trails, especially if you are vacationing in the area and want a break from skiing.
The Lenzerheide Panorama Trail is a 7-km trail between the ski areas of Alp Stätz and Tgantieni, on the slopes West of Lenzerheide and thus most suited for a morning walk (the sun hits the Western hills at about 2 pm mid-winter!). Chair lifts and cable cars take you up to the slopes, and the trail can be walked in both directions. Other than a steep section near Spoina (might be better to walk up than down) and two crossings of slippery ski runs, the rest of the trail is a well-groomed and easy walk, altogether two hours.
Starting on the North Side after ascending with the Churwalden-Heidbühl cable car means that you always walk toward the sun, and especially after a new snow the landscape glitters and sparkles while Mount Lenzerhorn towers ahead, and the frozen Lake Heidsee looks like a large open field next to Lenzerheide below. At the Tgantieni (South) end of the trail one has the option to ride down with the chair lift or walk the easy winding trail 3 km back down to Lenzerheide.
All along the way -- and with the option of two side trips (additional ascents) -- are a large selection of mountain restaurants where you can taste local cuisine and admire the view from terraces. Word of warning though, the eateries near the ski runs and chairlifts tend to play their music quite loud, a regrettable side-effect of these ski areas which unfortunately disturbs this otherwise peaceful winter experience..
Alp Stätz-Sartons, Spoina, Tgantieni (Bergrestaurant Tgantieni and Acla Grischuna)
Things to Note
There are a couple of short steep sections so one should be good on one's feet. Especially crossing the first two ski slopes can be a bit tricky as the snow is slick there from the skiers descending. This is why this tour is rated T2 instead of T1. Churwalden-Heidbühl cable car = 18 SFr. one way, Tgantieni-Val Sporz chair lift = 10 SFr. one way, GA valid on both for half price.
