There are several winter walks that you can do from the automobile-free village of Braunwald in Canton Glarus, and this is the classic one, specially suited to those who don’t want much uphill hiking, but who still want to enjoy the superb winter alpine scenery.
The path from Braunwald to the Restaurant at Nussbüel is wide and carefully tended and mostly level. It takes about an hour to walk to Nussbüel, where you can enjoy a light home-cooked meal on the sunny terrace, and try out their dessert specialty: Gugelhopf cake. On the way back you can take an alternate route in order to discover a little more of the vacation village of Braunwald.
Note: This path can also be done by horse-drawn sled.
On the shady part of the path below Mount Ortstock, the trail can be slippery.
