Pleasant Winter Afternoon Hike on Mount Hasliberg

Hasliberg Reuti - Bidmi - Lischen - Hasliberg Hochfluh

As an alternative to the better-known Hasliberg Panorama Trail, this tour is ideal if you are looking for some peace and quiet and fantastic views of the Bernese Alps and Brienzer Valley.

With the exception of the approx. 30-minute stretch between the Bidmi and Lischen ski areas (where the skiers and sledders meet to go back up the hill), the rest of the tour is a peaceful one, along a well-prepared wide road, which starts East of the Village of Reuti and winds up the hill past individual homes and barns dotting the hillside, and through several stretches of forests where the warming sunshine sparkles off the snow-covered trees.

All along the way you are accompanied by the splendid mountain view, both Eastward into the Hasli Valley and Westward into the Brienzer Valley, stunning even when the fog sits heavy atop the lake, as well as South to the spectacular Mount Wetterhorn and the infamous Eiger North Wall. The ascent is steady and easy, as is the descent, so the walk is not difficult and this is an ideal winter walk on a sunny afternoon.

Note: Although not officially a sledding trail, expect to meet a few skiers and sledders using this stretch to descend to the main road as well.

On a warm sunny weekend expect lots of traffic on the road from the Brünig Pass. By 10 a.m. on this Saturday morning, traffic controllers were turning back vehicles shortly past the Brünig Pass as all parking spots until Reuti were occupied. Alternately one can ascend from Meiringen to Reuti with the cable car, and from Hochfluh take the bus back to Reuti to descend to Meiringen.
