This tour up Monte Comino in the magnificent Centovalli and down to Intragna definitely rates as one of the best! There is a cable car from Verdasio up the mountain, shortening the hike by about 2 hours, but the hike up the hill is also enjoyable, as you pass first through the village of Verdasio, then through the chestnut forests, past some meadows with clusters of Rustici, and finally arrive at the little chapel Madonna della Segna built in 1647 and standing all alone in the middle of the forest. Nearby on the way to the summit station of the Monte Comino cable car is a natural biotope of national importance.

In any case there is plenty of wonderful hiking and a variety of terrain even if starting the hike at the summit station of the Monte Comino cable car. A backtrack to the chapel and the biotope is recommend, before heading back toward Intragna. After a short uphill section most of the rest of the hike is downhill, crossing some steep cliff sections, more forests, and the hamlets of Selna and Costa with the typical Rustici houses and an abundance of brilliant flowering bushes.

In Costa it is possible to take another cable car down to Intragna, but we recommend continuing on foot as you pass through a magical hidden spot in the hills near Pila where there is a well-tended old mill and a lovely little deep and very cold pool where the brave can attempt a very refreshing dip! And the view of Intragna and the valley beyond is an impressive one as you descend the last few steps of the hill at the end of the tour.
