This hike through the Capriasca Region of Ticino from Tesserete to Lamone is really more like a stroll in an Italian-influenced countryside, with the green undulating landscape and the many Mediterranean-style villages and vegetation. There are lots of options for variations on this; you can let the trail take you where you will, as there are many other villages to discover and many options for public transport along the way as well. This particular route offers lots of variety and many things to look at, including, of course, some very beautiful church buildings.
The highlight of this tour would have to be the hidden treasure in Sant'Ambrogio's Church in Ponte Capriasca, probably the best copy of Leonardo DaVinci's Last Supper in existence, painted by his own pupil Cesare da Sesto in 1547/48.
The tour also includes a walk around the serene Lago d'Origlio, but not before taking a detour up to the Oratorio, from where you get a nice view around the region.
Highlights: Baroque Churches (San Stefano in Tesserete... There is a fresco of Madonna and Child where the baby has 6 fingers) // Painting of "The Last Supper" in Ponte Capriasca // all the little village centers // Views of the mountain range called "Denti della Vecchia" ("Old Woman's Teeth")
Notes: Since this is a hike to mostly discover old villages, there is lots of walking along paved roads. Which is not too bad because there are many interesting things to see. // Easy to do with children // Since this area receives relatively little snow, this kind of hike can be done all year round.
