Lavertezzo - Ponte di Corippo - San Bartolomeo - Vogorno - Berzona - Diga Verzasca

Most hiking websites will describe the relatively easy walk along the Verzasca River from Sonogno to Lavertezzo, or the more challenging ascent from Lavertezzo to Mergoscia on the West side of Lake Vogorno, but there is also an interesting and exciting although not difficult hike on the East (street) side of the lake as well.

This trail from Lavertezzo to the Contra Dam offers loads of variety: Lots of forest trail of course, but also a crossing of the river, lunch at a Grotto, passages of several pretty communities, and a short section along some cliffs requiring handholds. And of course lots of views of Lake Vogorno and the magnificent Ticino Mountains and of the villages on the West side.

The tour is complemented by detours to the river to see an unusual vertical rock-cut basin, and a less accessible hamlet of modern Rustici homes, and last but certainly not least a walk across the magnificent dam, where brave individuals can try their hand at James Bond bungee jumping. (The dam was featured in the introductory minutes of the movie Golden Eye.)
