From the Sertig Valley to the Highest Brewery in Europe

Sertig Sand - Aebirügg - Jatzmeder - Hauderalp - Davos Monstein

Although this pleasant and non-strenuous trail near the very popular vacation and ski resort of Davos is shared with mountain bikers, it is none-the-less a tour to be recommended, as there are plenty of wonderful panoramic views along the way, and both the start and end destinations are accessible by Post Bus.

Furthermore, there is only one short easy uphill section, and although the descent to Davos Monstein can be rather steep, it makes up for the rest of the fairly level trail, mostly on narrow paths. (There is an alternate descent via Oberalp, 1 km and 20 minutes longer, but less steep).

If you do the hike on a Friday, you can get a free tour of the Monstein Brewery, the highest elevation brewery in Europe, whose motto is "The Last Beer Stop Before Heaven".

We did this hike end of May, but ran into several snowed-in sections in the avalanche gullies that proved tricky to navigate, so we recommend waiting till mid-June. Furthermore, the hillsides were simply covered with Alp-Rose bushes, which must look spectacular when the pink flowers are blooming.

If coming by public transport from further afar, we recommend coming one way via Filisur, as the train trip through the Landwasser Gorge and the UNESCO World Heritage Site of the Albula Valley (i.e. crossing of the Landwasser Viaduct) is a special treat.
