Top-Wanderungen der Schweiz

This relatively easy hike on the Palfries High Plateau above the Seez Valley offers lots of sunshine and wonderful views across the Glarnisch and Bündner Alps as well as over Lake Walensee and the Churfirsten mountains.

Until recently this high plateau was only accessible by vehicle (with road toll) or after a 90-minute hike, but in May 2016 the "Palfries Cableway Association" opened a previously only-for-military-use cableway to the public, a 3-km ride which accesses the plateau from the Seez Valley 1200 m below.

The trail takes you along the base of the jagged Alvier range with stunning rock formations to the East, and all the views to the West. In particular, there is a very nice view over Lake Walensee and the Churfirsten mountains at the Alp Castilu. Additionally you pass through the Sennis-Malun Nature Reserve with its moor landscape. There are two restaurants along the route where you can rest a while.

NOTE: This is a popular excursion on weekends, and with the limited space in the cable-car, it is recommended to go up on a weekday, and also to reserve your spot on the cable car ahead of time online.
