There is only praise for this magnificent tour: gentle rises and dips all along the way, passing through sun-dappled forests, peaceful meadows, typical Appenzell farmsteads, and almost always accompanied by the far-reaching vistas of the Alps, from Mount Säntis in the Alptein Massif, to the Central Alps and further. From many spots along the way you even get views of the rolling hills of the Toggenburg to the East as well as glimpses of Lake Constance to the North.
As is often the case because Switzerland's Cantons are so small, the trail takes you along and across the borders of St.Gallen and Appenzell at several places along the way.
You have the choice of several restaurants along the way (see links) but the lovely Gasthaus Sitz at the highest point of the tour has undisputably the best views and very reasonable prices, and both great inside and outside seating arrangements.
This tour is recommended for people who don't like steep and lengthy uphill or downhill sections on their trails, who don't want to travel into the Alps but want to get the most of the wonderful Alpine landscape.
