Summit Station Intschi-Arni - Chänzeli - Arnisee - Heissigegg - Gurtnellen Dorf

Easy hike in the beautiful Uri Alps from Lake Arnisee to the mountain village of Gurtnellen.

The hike starts at the summit of the Intschi-Arni Cableway where there is a restaurant where you can get some refreshments before starting on the walk. It is just a short distance to the idyllic lake with its picnic area where you can do your own barbecueing. There is a path all around the lake, and a lesser-know path takes you along the South side to a look-out point from where you see down the Reuss Valley toward the Gotthard region, and particularly beautifully into the Maderaner Valley across the way.

From the lake the level wide mountain road takes you first past the Sennerei where the local farmer sells yoghurts and cheeses, then winds through the hillside high above the Reuss Valley, offering some pretty magnificent views the entire way.

For the descent to Gurtnellen you can choose to continue along the road or take the prettier trails cutting through the meadows. In Gurtnellen Dorf are two restaurants, where you can enjoy the peaceful mountain air while waiting for the little bus that takes you to Gurtnellen Wiler at the bottom of the Reuss Valley.

NOTE: There is a larger community called Gurtnellen Wiler at the bottom of the Reuss Valley, as well as the smaller mountain hamlet of the same name. The bus from Gurtnellen Dorf runs only a few times per day down to Gurtnellen Wiler, so check the schedule carefully (also pdf attached for 2019).
