Stage 15 of the National Route No.2 "Trans Swiss Trail" starts in Schangnau and ends in Sörenberg, through the stunning Entlebuch landscape of Canton Lucerne.

The Entlebuch, designated a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO in 2001 because of its abundance of highland moors, wetland biotopes and Karst landscapes, is nicknamed the "Wild West" of Lucerne.

The trail we chose is about half of Stage 15, and we started in Sörenberg and walked westward, thus enjoying the mighty Schrattenfluh, Hohgant and Brienzer Ridges ahead of us.

The trail is pleasant and not at all difficult, even the ca. 1-hour uphill section from Sörenberg which is a well-laid trail with many "stepped" sections, following the chair lift line. (There is also a cable car to Rossweid for those who don't want to walk the uphill portion).

Perhaps one-third of the hike is along narrow paved or forest roads used by the local farmers, but this is in no way tiring because of the fantastic landscapes.

Along the way, the Gasthaus Salwideli offers a rest-stop, and there is the cutest self-serve "Hofladen" (Farmer's Shop) at Schneeberg, where they offer a huge variety of preserves, teas, cheeses and sausages, syrups and so much more, all on the honour principle, which should not be abused as mountain farmers have to work hard to make their livelihood in these steep hills.

Toward the end of the tour the trail descends through the romantic Emme River gorge before reaching Kemmeriboden Bad, with its historical buildings and famous for its meringue desserts which can easily be shared by two people as the cream is so rich. Beware, it is a very popular place especially on the weekend, as it is easily reached by road from the Schangnau side.

Wohl ebenso schön ist diese Wanderung, wenn Schnee liegt. Bis Rossweid benützten wir die Gondelbahn und folgten dann dem pinkfarben markierten Winterwanderweg.
