To commemorate the 700th anniversary of Switzerland's Confederation, all the Swiss Cantons participated to create "The Swiss Path", a 35-km long continuous trail around the Uri Arm of Lake Lucerne, from the Rütli meadow where the original three Cantons Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden signed their agreement to unite politically, to Brunnen on the other side,
Along the 35-km route (Trail no. 99) there are many places where one can access public transport, whether bus, boat or train, so the entire trail can be done in several segments, although typically it is split into two parts.
A particularly panoramic section is the one from Morschach to Sisikon, with some fantastic views over the Uri arm of Lake Lucerne. Continuing from Sisikon to Flüelen you pass an area integral to the story of William Tell, besides this being a very nice lakeside hike.
Definitely a must-do hike for anyone interested in Swiss History and the legend of William Tell.
On the descent to Sisikon, there might be a warning of a detour in case of high water run-off // At the start near Morschach are options for two detours to the Lourdes Grotte (120m) and the MarienKapelle.
