This hike from Iffigen Alp to the Simmen Falls with detour to the Oberlaubhorn Peak is replete with stunning panorama views, dozens of spectacular waterfalls, attractive mountain pastures, several mountain restaurants where you can take a break and enjoy their dairy products (meringue with whipped cream is a recommendation).
Best of all, this is not a difficult hike; even the first steep 200m ascent from Iffigen Alp to Ritz Alp is easy enough, especially in the early-morning shadow of the surrounding vertical cliffs. The ca. 50-minute detour to the top of Mount Oberlaubhorn is worth the slight effort for a view North across Lenk into the Simmental Valley.
Most of the hike is along good mountain trails, whereas the final 2.5-km after the Siebenbrunnen Restaurant are on a wide forest road along the young Simme River with its myriad of waterfalls.
NOTES: Late Summer / Early Fall there is already a lot of shadow at the Iffigenalp (sunshine only after 9 a.m.) // Not recommended to start this hike at Ritzdole bus station as the ascent to Ritz Alp is on a rock-strewn vehicle road. // Unfortunately you only get a short glimpse of the magnificent Iffigen Falls on the way up by bus. If possible, a return trip to these Falls with a walk back to Lenk is recommended.
