The hike from the Albis Pass to Sihlbrugg along the Albis Range offers many panoramic views on both sides of the range, from the full length of Lake Zurich to Mount Säntis and all the way South to the Bernese Alps. This approx. 3-hour walk is recommended to do on a clear day because missing these views would be a real disappointment.
Views of Lake Zurich already greet the eye on the way to the wooden lookout tower just 25-30 minutes from the pass. At the base of the tower there are several official fire “places”. The 33m high tower has a platform with benches and spectacular 360º views, inviting you to stay a while….
From here a short uphill walk takes you to the base of a small but steep hill upon which is perched the ruins of the 12th century fortress of Schnabelburg. All that remains are a few short stone walls excavated in 1955. The path up is very steep and care must be exercised. Alternately, you can continue along the trail at the base of the hill.
After reaching the Schnabellücke trail marker (from here the trails go in many directions), a 130m uphill climb takes you to the highest point of the Albis Range, the Bürglenstutz (915m). From here it’s an easy 20-minute walk to the Albishorn where the view terrace at the restaurant invites you for a drink and more lake and mountain views.
The rest of the tour is all downhill, first on a “ridge” trail with lots of roots, and then through shady forest with an alternate parallel sunny trail, past the hamlet of Ober Albis to the Schweikhof which is a family-run farm with restaurant and outdoor “bar” called a Besenbeitz and then finally to the traffic circle at Sihlbrugg where you can catch a bus back to Baar. (note that there is only one bus stop in the circle as the bus loops here).
This short and very easy hike on Mount Zugerberg is a pleasant afternoon stroll offering some very nice views over the lake and city of Zug, and a blossoming splendor if the... mehr >>
